Sheer Delight

As we move into the New Year and the warmth of the Australian summer, the trend in curtain and drape design is to embrace more delicate characteristics. We are seeing a shift away from thick, regal drapes to minimal sheers that emphasise the architecture of the home.

Adrian at Lewis Interiors says the demand for sheer fabric is remarkable. His approach is informed by the architecture of each room and includes finishing touches like cushions and artwork. Sheers then work as a captivating art piece when the curtains are drawn.

Adrian’s expert tips:

  1. Fix your curtain rod closer to the ceiling than the top of your window to create a taller window.

  2. Hanging curtains a couple of centimetres above the floor will make cleaning easier and give the illusion of floor length curtains.

  3. Consider the natural light in each room.

  4. Opt for sheers in open plan living spaces.

If full sun block-out or privacy is required, the addition of a roller blind behind the sheers, or contemporary lined drapes in front, can provide the solution for total privacy and light control.
